To Accompany the Workshops we are offering the chance to compete against other local dancers to celebrate what we can do!

Let's Meet Our Judges!

Matthew Wesley

Matthew is an Arts Ed Graduate who has since gone on to be in a number of productions. Starting with his debut as Harry/Harrison in Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre in 2007. More recently he has been offering an amazing variety of workshops via zoom and will be travelling with the UK Tour company of Chicago as the Associate Choreographer.

He is looking forward to seeing all of the competitors at MNDC and wish all of them GOOD LUCK!

Judges

Mark Hindle

Mark received his training on full scholarship on Northern Ballet school. Since graduating he has worked extensively in the Arts. Some credits include Celebrity cruises, The Queens Jubilee Concert, the Lion King musical and the Dutch Musical awards to name a few. He has performed in array of prestigious theatres. The Palace Theatre Manchester, The Leicester Curve and The Royal Albert Hall. Mark has now shifted into the teaching profession as well teaching classical ballet at vocational colleges. Mark is currently attending the prestigious Royal Ballet school on their teaching diploma!

Ryan Fenton

Ryan is a professional male dancer, his main specialities are commercial dance, heels, voguing, contemporary fusion and street styles. He says there’s no better feeling then performing and getting that rush and adrenaline as you dance for an audience, as well as the performing aspect, over the past 2 years he has delved massively into teaching and can honestly say he loves to teach, whether that’s classes for adult beginners, to professional dancers, to teaching kids current up to date dances, Ryan caters to all ages and abilities and do my upmost to make everyone feel happy, secure and confident within themselves.

Rules and Regulations

General Divisions

  • Solo

  • Duo/Trio

  • Small Group (4-9 dancers)

  • Large Group (10+ dancers) 

Age Divisions

  • 8 & Under (Minis) 

  • 9 - 11 (Juniors)

  • 12-14 (Teens)

  • 15-18 (Seniors)

  • 19+ (Adults)

Dance Genres

  • Ballet - Includes classical steps and ballet technique, both soft shoes and pointe shoes are permitted.

  • Contemporary/Lyrical - Interpretative dance category must be modern in style, can be a combination of jazz, modern and ballet technique incorporating balance, control and musical interpretation.

  • Hip Hop/Commercial - Urban based dance style often performed to hip hop or current music.  Routines can include breaking, popping, locking, krumping, freezes, gymnastics etc. or any new social dance being introduced to the streets

  • Jazz - Incorporates various styles of dance and genres of music but distinguishes itself by its musicality with an emphasis on strong accents and characterization.  Often includes Kicks, jumps, leaps, turns and isolations etc.

  • Tap - Routine must consist of tap technique and primarily tap work (no tap sounds on track) 

  • Open - This category is for any routine that doesn’t fall into any of our specific performance categories, can include acro, ballroom, disco, folk, cheerleading etc.

Time Limits

  • SOLOS are a maximum of 2 mins (with a grace period of 2 mins and 10 sec)

  • DUO/TRIOS are a maximum of 2 mins 45 sec

  • Small GROUPS are 3 mins

  • Large GROUPS 3 mins 30 seconds

  • You can purchase extra time for groups ONLY and is charged at £2 per person per

  • Note: Overtime will result in automatic point deduction

Schedule

  • Schedules are subject to change but will be confirmed no later than 3 weeks before the competition date.

  • Exact performance times will be released no later than 3 weeks before the competition.

  • Every competition schedule is set up based solely on the breakdown of entries by solos, duets/ trios and groups.  We do not have this breakdown until all entries have been processed and at that time we set up a schedule, which will best accommodate the people at that competition

  • MNDC will assign a unique entry number to each act, this is for reference and identification purposes.

  • Please report stage five numbers before you are due to perform.

Small Group (4-9 Dancers) - £8 per person - 3:00 - 4:00 (£2 pp)

Large Group (10+ Dancers) - £5 per person - 3:30 - 4:30 (£2 pp)

Spectator Tickets

  • Tickets Will be split into Sections (Mini, Junior, Teen, Senior and Adults).

  • Dancers entered in the competition, two teachers per dance school and children under 5 watch for FREE

  • All tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite

  • Teachers please redeem your free tickets From the Kiosk.

  • Dance competitors will receive a wristband for their section only. If they wish to watch other sections they are required to buy the relevant wristband.

Payments

  • MNDC only accepts payments via BACS.

  • All entries must be paid by bank transfer (with Dance School name) without the dance school name we may not be able to trace your payment.

  • We accept payments in instalments or in full (If you are making payments in instalments please make reference to the instalment number when making payment)

  • Balance must be paid in FULL no later than 4 weeks before the competition. All entries that are not paid for in full by the closing date will not be allowed to compete.

  • NO REFUNDS- Accept in the case of cancellations due to government restrictions on public gatherings which will be fully refunded
